STEMLink provides an opportunity for fifth and sixth grade students to explore STEM careers in a college setting. Students spend a day working in college labs with college faculty and other STEM professionals. Blue U led a session on civil and geotechnical engineering. Students learned about what engineers do, why engineering is important, and local and national projects engineers work on. After the presentation, students worked in small groups to design a community park where they had to juggle competing priorities, effectively use space, and critically think about what they wanted to include in their park and why. Students gave brief presentations to the class explaining how they came up with their park layout.
